Parliament, Politics & Pugilism: Money Making & The ‘Noble Art’ of Thatcherism!

(6 customer reviews)

£0.99

JD Morgan portrays Margaret Thatcher as an innovative, intransigent, political pugilist of a type unseen in British politics since the days of Winston Churchill. And, in analysing some of the Conservative Prime Minister’s most controversial and iconic moments, he compares her brash, devil-may-care, divisive attitude and sledgehammer style of eliminating her enemies and opponents to that of World Welterweight Champion, Lloyd Honeyghan, a flamboyant British-Jamaican immigrant who never took a backward step in the ring, wore his heart on his sleeve and, like so many of that era, flagrantly flaunted any ‘unwritten’ rules and regulations to his own advantage. JD Morgan compares the careers of these two unlikely ‘bedfellows’ during the mid-1980s, aka the ‘Yuppie Years’, when the ‘Iron Lady’ and the self-proclaimed ‘Ragamuffin’ were operating at the height of their political and physical powers within a ‘greed is good’ culture which, quite suddenly and depending on geographical location, both gripped and divided the nation, as it seeped into, and eventually saturated JD Morgan’s sleepy, slumbering part of Britain, far south of the Watford Gap! Description

‘You Don’t Get Paid For Overtime In This Business!’

It may be stretching the truth beyond the realms of reason to compare a former world welterweight boxing champion, born in Jamaica and brought up in London, to Britain’s first ever, homegrown, female Prime Minister, but, at times during the mid-Eighties, although operating in different fighting arenas, it seemed that both were just as bold, brave and belligerent as the other!

Reading this account of Britain was like closing my eyes and stepping back in time.
An era of anything is possible, and I’m alright Jack.
Thatcher was the catalyst for a more hardened and unpleasant type of world to emerge.
